Small Group Salons

VCP members and friends are encouraged to meet up in small groups with the purpose of viewing each other’s work, sharing ideas, and offering mutual support. One example of an ongoing VCP salon is called “Carry It In” (CII)… a group of 14 dedicated photographers who’ve been meeting independently at VCP once a month for over 2 years. The primary focus of CII’s meetings is printed work and project development.

We hope to form and support more groups along this model. The requirements are simple: a clear focus of the group’s intention, a designated leader or leaders (one must be a VCP member), and a schedule for meetings. Participation in a small group salon is typically by invitation, with a set maximum of participants. The nature of the salon is independent and self-directed, and each group can devise its own standards for meetings.

VCP will gladly provide support to help new groups get established. If you would like to know more about how to start a salon, contact Director Josh Farr at: info@vcphoto.org. Josh will put you in touch with one of our members who will facilitate the process of creating and sustaining a small group salon. By encouraging photographers to focus on their work in a committed environment, VCP firmly believes these groups are a great benefit to participants.
