WORKSHOP: Darkroom Printing Basics

Vermont Center for Photography, 49 Flat Street, Brattleboro, VT, 05301 (Down the alley next to the transportation center on Flat Street).
Instructor:
Barry Dial has been doing his own black and white darkroom processing since he first started taking pictures in the 1960s. He has been a serious photographer, from hobbyist to professional. In addition to other photographic work, he spent four years as an instructor mentor in a public darkroom. His darkroom experience includes black and white, color, lith and platinum printing.
Course Description:
This workshop will cover the basics of black and white printing using variable contrast paper in a traditional darkroom. There will be a discussion of the chemicals involved in black and white work and how variable contrast papers work. The students will have the opportunity to create prints from their own negatives using the techniques discussed.
Participants:
Minimum of 1 – Maximum of 4 participants
Materials & Equipment Students Should Bring:
Students should bring a selection of B&W negatives to print. Film should be already developed. The workshop will not cover the film developing process.
Materials provided at the workshop:
All necessary chemicals and paper will be provided by VCP.
