Thrifting; The New Way to Shop
Have you had the chance to check out VCP’s thrift store, PhotoThrift?
If not, you are missing out! PhotoThrift is a photographic thrift store that fundraises for the Vermont Center for Photography. VCP takes donated photographic equipment and posts it on the PhotoThrift Instagram account to find a new home!
Thrifting is a great way to shop. It has numerous benefits to the environment, VCP, and of course, you! Take a look at our top three reasons why you should shop at PhotoThrift:
- It Helps the Environment!
Buying at a thrift store reduces waste that results from creating new photographic equipment. Waste such as oils, solvents, and metals are all minimized when you buy used because your thrifting creates less of a demand in the factory.
Donating also helps the environment. By donating your photographic equipment, you are preventing it from sitting in a landfill for years on end. Giving your equipment a new home reduces the amount of e-waste that goes into landfills causing environmental contamination. By donating, your trash can be someone else’s treasure!
- It Keeps the Money in your Pocket!
Buying equipment second-hand is going to save you a significant amount of money. Yes, it might take time to find exactly what you are looking for, but taking the time is surely worth it. Thrifted products could be 50%, 60%, or even 75% of their original price. Some say time is money, but we say taking the time will save you money!
- It Supports VCP!
By donating and purchasing from PhotoThrift you will help the Vermont Center for Photography! VCP offers some wonderful opportunities to the community and beyond. Offerings such as the darkroom, workshops, and exhibits would not be possible without you. By donating and purchasing from PhotoThrift you will help VCP immensely in continuing to provide these programs!
So, if you haven’t gotten the chance to, check out PhotoThrift and see what treasures you can find!
