VCP is proud to be home to one of Vermont’s only publicly accessible fully-equipped B/W darkrooms. You do not need to be a VCP member to use the darkroom. Our spacious 5-enlarger darkroom is fully equipped with everything you’ll need to make b&w silver gelatin prints, develop 35mm, 120, or sheet film, or dry/press/mount your finished prints.
VCP’s black and white darkroom includes:
• Three medium format Saunders and two 4×5 Saunders enlargers
• 10’ stainless steel sink for making up to 16×20” prints
• 11×14” and 16×20” archival print washers
• Electrostatic film drying cabinet
• UV exposure unit for alternative processes (up to 16×20 print frames)
• 18×22” dry mount heat press
• Separate film developing room for processing 35mm to 8×10 sheets
We suggest at least a 24 hour notice before using the darkroom to ensure availability – drop-ins are welcome, however!
You can email info@vcphoto.org or call 802-251-6051 to schedule time in the darkroom.
VCP Members: $7/hour
Non-Members: $14/hour
All darkroom chemicals are included in your rental cost. Renters bring their own paper and any other specialty chemicals or materials needed. Limited supply of expired Fiber and RC paper is available for free use. Rental cost is rounded to the nearest half-hour.
For $250/year, you can now sign up as a “Premium VCP Member” which gives you all of the normal VCP membership benefits, but instead of paying a discounted hourly rate for use of darkroom and digital lab, Premium Members have unlimited use of the two studio spaces for the whole year! Chemicals in the darkroom and ink in the digital lab are included. Members provide their own digital or darkroom paper. Visit our Membership Page to sign up!
