FILM SERIES: “Buena Vista Social Club” & Cuba Trip Info Session
Please join us on Thursday, August 25th at 6:30PM for a FREE showing of the 1999 documentary film “Buena Vista Social Club“. This documentary by lauded German filmmaker Wim Wenders follows renowned guitarist Ry Cooder and his son, Joachim, as they travel to Cuba and assemble a group of the country’s finest musicians to record an album. Among the artists included in the project are singer Ibrahim Ferrer and pianist Rubén González, who are both interviewed and featured in studio footage. Eventually the ensemble travels to the United States to perform in front of rapt audiences.
Immediately following the film, photographer Cathryn Griffith will discuss her upcoming group tour to Cuba in a public informational gathering. Cathryn will lead her ninetheenth trip to Cuba from December 3-10, 2016, for which openings are still available. She will be at VCP to talk about the various activities and destinations planned and answer questions beginning at 8:15pm. Amateur and professional photographers or those interested in visiting Cuba in a small group may pick up a printed itinerary at the VCP. The total cost of the trip is $3,200 and covers most expenses.
