Exploring the Nude Portrait Workshop

Instructor
Gary Samson is a fine art photographer and educator with over four decades of experience. He has exhibited his work regionally, nationally and internationally and has won many awards for his photography and films. For the past ten years he has made images on black and white film using a variety of large format cameras for the Nude Portrait Project. Gary is the chair of the Photography Department at the New Hampshire institute of Art where he has been teaching since 1981.

Class Size
4 minimum and 6 max participants.

Cost
The workshop will be $250 for non-members and $225 for VCP Members.

Course Description
This two day workshop will explore the creation of nude female portraits working with both studio and available light setups. In the morning Gary Samson will present his work and philosophy in making nude portraits and the models will discuss and share thoughts about the photographer / model relationship. Following a quick break for lunch, participants will work with the models, first making clothed portraits and then transitioning to nude portraits. Students in the workshop will be guided by Gary and the models throughout the session and day one will end with a discussion and planning for the second day of the workshop. Day two will start with a brief review / critique of workshop participant’s digital images made on Saturday. The balance of the workshop will be spent making nude portraits of the models with a wrap-up discussion at the end of the day.

Materials
Bring a Digital SLR camera, mirrorless camera or film camera; a laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom for photographers working with a digital camera. If you are unable to bring your own camera, VCP has a limited number of large format and medium format film cameras available to borrow for the duration of the workshop.

If you are unable to attend the workshop for whatever reason and have already registered, VCP will refund 100% of the fee if notice is given by September 21st.
