This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of digitizing film using Epson flatbed scanners. Whether your goal is to share images online, produce high-quality prints, or build a well-organized digital archive, participants will learn the essential workflow for converting film negatives into high-resolution digital files.
The class will cover proper handling, cleaning, and preparation of film, helping ensure that dust, scratches, and fingerprints do not compromise your scans. Participants will learn best practices for scanning a variety of film formats, including 35mm, 120 medium format, and large format, as well as both black & white and color negatives.
In addition to the physical scanning process, the workshop will introduce key scanner software settings, including resolution, color depth, and exposure adjustments. We will also discuss how to choose appropriate file formats and file sizes depending on your intended use—whether for web sharing, printing, or long-term digital archiving.
By the end of the session, participants will leave with a clear understanding of the scanning workflow and the tools needed to confidently digitize their own film at home or using VCP’s shared lab equipment.
