ARTIST TALK: Michael Poster

Join us for an artist talk with Michael Poster, whose work is currently on view in the Print Gallery at the Vermont Center for Photography. Poster will speak about bewitched and bewildered, a deeply personal body of work that functions as both memoir and protest.

Presented in two parts, bewitched is on view through January, with the second chapter, bewildered, taking its place in February. Together, the project reflects decades of sustained photographic storytelling—work built over years of trust, proximity, and lived experience.

Poster will discuss the long arcs behind the images on the wall: stories of addiction and recovery, love and loss, labor, community, aging, and resilience. Some photographs come from fleeting encounters; others from relationships developed over many years. Each image is a fragment of a larger, unfinished story—because, as Poster reminds us, lives don’t resolve cleanly.

This talk offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from the artist about process, ethics, time, and the emotional weight carried by photographs made in close relationship with their subjects.

Free and open to the public.
