New Terrain: A Juried Exhibition

Juried by Lucas Foglia
Having explored our relationship to the land in 2025’s Of Land & Place exhibit, and confronted the present in 2026’s Why We Look, VCP’s 2027 juried exhibition looks forward. We are seeking work that imagines environmental futures, through restoration, adaptation, uncertainty, or hope, using any tools or processes photographers turn to for seeing the land clearly today.
This may take the form of long-term documentary projects that trace restoration and rewilding underway, or images built from speculation and invention, picturing landscapes not yet arrived at. It may be observational work that finds in familiar ground the unfamiliar signs of change, or portraiture that considers how communities are learning to live differently with the land. We are less interested in a single register than in the range of ways photographers are currently thinking through what comes next, whether through evidence, imagination, or some tension between the two.
Call for Entry Details:
• Artists may each submit up to five images
• Individuals may only submit once (one submission of 5 images total)
• Work may be any photographic medium (digital, analog, handmade, alt-process..etc)
• Artists may be any age from any country worldwide
• Artists are responsible for printing, framing, and shipping their work to and from VCP
• Framed presentation is preferred; alternative presentation methods may be discussed with accepted artists
• Work selected for exhibit is encouraged to be for sale. VCP retains 40% of proceeds from work sold during the exhibit.
Important Dates:
• Sep 26, 2026: Submissions open
• Dec 19, 2026: Submission deadline
• Jan 16, 2027: Notification of jurors selections via email
• Feb 27, 2027: Accepted work due at VCP
• March 5, 2027, 5-8pm: Opening Reception
• March 5 – May 2, 2027: Exhibition on view in VCP’s Main Gallery
Guest Juror:
Lucas Foglia (born 1983) is a fine art photographer who makes stories about people in nature. With a clear aesthetic, his projects convey narratives that are lyrical, nuanced, and compassionate. He received a BFA from Brown University in 2005 and MFA from Yale University in 2010. His 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship traces the longest butterfly migration, creating a metaphor for human connections across international borders. Foglia’s photographic prints have been widely collected and exhibited, including at Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, International Center of Photography, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Victoria & Albert Museum. He has published six books: A Natural Order (2012), Frontcountry (2014), Human Nature (2017), Summer After (2021), Living on Lava (2024), and Constant Bloom (2025).
