This immersive, hands-on workshop introduces participants to CMYK screenprinting—the four-color process used to create full-color images through layered cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. Presented in collaboration with First Proof Press, the workshop focuses on the physical craft of screenprinting and the unique visual qualities that emerge through ink, paper, and process.
Participants will work directly with multiple screens, learning how to register and align layers, control ink density, and build up a finished print through successive passes. The workshop will explore how photographic and digital images translate into CMYK prints, emphasizing practical printing techniques, problem-solving at the press, and the rhythm of producing a small edition by hand. Expect a mix of demonstrations, guided practice, and time to experiment.
Registration fees include all materials, inks, paper, and use of equipment. Participants are asked to submit a digital image at least one week prior to the workshop start date so screens can be prepared in advance, allowing the class to focus primarily on printing during the workshop itself. No prior screenprinting experience is required, and the workshop is well-suited for photographers, designers, and artists curious about expanding their practice into printmaking.
