* JURORS’ STATEMENT *

VCP’s Juried Exhibition was born out of co-curatorial effort between Davida Carta and Joshua Farr. Being an open theme, there was no preconceived idea of what the exhibition would become; we guided what emerged from an initial collaborative reviewing process, ear-marking work that we had an emotional pull to and begged for additional viewing. But the process of curating VCP’s Juried Exhibition extended beyond the selection of photographic work.
We wanted to offer the audience a meaningful path for them to follow and an experience that would allow questions to arise – which often pertain to identity, gender and family history in relation to place. The creative process is always one of very personal meaning and we found ourselves struck by how many of the submitting artists’ work was based upon some idea pertaining to identity and their own exploration of their own sense of self.
Perhaps in viewing this exhibition viewer can begin to address some of these same subjects and questions for themselves.
