2018 Open Juried Exhibition

Join us as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary with another vibrant juried group exhibition – featuring the work of photographers from around the globe for the month of March 2018. 33 photographs have been selected for the exhibition by our distinguished guest juror Shane Lavalette, Director of Light Work in Syracuse, NY.

Awards:
VCP will select one artist in the 2018 Open Juried Exhibition to be awarded a solo exhibit of their work in our 2019 exhibition schedule. Exact dates of the awarded solo exhibition are to be negotiated with VCP by August 1, 2018. The winner will be announced at the Closing Reception on Sunday, April 1st – though they do not need to be present. Additionally, our juror will select one Juror’s Choice Award (TBA).

Juror:

Shane Lavalette is an American photographer, independent publisher, and the director of Light Work, a non-profit in Syracuse, New York. He holds a BFA from Tufts University in partnership with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lavalette’s photographs have been shown widely, including exhibitions at the High Museum of Art, Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, Aperture Gallery, Montserrat College of Art, The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Musée de l’Elysée, in addition to being held in private and public collections. In 2016, a solo exhibition of One Sun, One Shadow was presented at Robert Morat Galerie in Hamburg, Germany, and a monograph of the work was self-published. One Sun One Shadow was selected as one of the “Best Books” by photo-eye, nominated for the Kassel Photobook Award 2017, and shortlisted for the Author Book Award 2017 at Les Rencontres d’Arles. Lavalette’s work has been featured by The New York Times, TIME, NPR, CNN, The Telegraph, Foam Magazine, Hotshoe, among others, and his editorial work has accompanied stories in various publications, including The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Esquire, Bloomberg Businessweek, Vice Magazine, The Wire, Wallpaper, Monocle, and The Guardian.
