LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

In-Sight Photography Project   –   Brattleboro, VT    www.insight-photography.org
The In-Sight Photography Project offers students a creative voice and outlet, an opportunity to experience success, tools for self-awareness and self-worth, and encourages them to become actively engaged in their communities. In-Sight teaches photography to youth ages 11-18 throughout Southern Vermont, regardless of their ability to pay.

Brattleboro Museum & Art Center   –   Brattleboro, VT    www.brattleboromuseum.org
Whether showcasing regional artists in dynamic group shows, inviting guest curators to create one-of-a-kind exhibits, celebrating local fine art legends, or presenting the work of international art icons, the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center produces powerful exhibits that challenge the status quo while honoring the hallowed lineage of art history.
For the last 40 years, we’ve been devoted to celebrating the creative drive of artists both upcoming and established, displaying art that spans the realm of possibility in media, form, content, and experience, whether subtle or bold, traditional or revolutionary, static or kinetic, intimate or interactive, miniature or massive.

Vermont Artisan Designs    –    Brattleboro, VT    www.vtart.com
We are a fine art and contemporary American craft gallery celebrating a wide variety of artists and artisans — primarily from Vermont and other parts of New England — for the past 40 years. You’ll find both functional and decorative work from well-established and emerging artisans: paintings, ranging from landscapes to still life to abstract; sculpture in bronze, wood, paper, wire, mixed media, stone, steel; colorful and clear blown glass; a great selection of pottery; beautiful hand-painted silk, as well as woven chenille and velvet, scarves; carefully turned salad bowls; exquisitely finished furniture including a rocker that you will swear was made just for you; a great selection of Judaica featuring a wonderful collection of menorahs; entrancing kaleidoscopes; subtle sounding chimes; photographs that capture the essence of Vermont; lamps to accent your home or office; and other wonderful items for you to discover.

EDUCATION

Marlboro College   –   Marlboro, VT    www.marlboro.edu
Marlboro College offers a student-centered approach to education that is structurally and culturally different from other colleges. Unfettered by generic course requirements, each student works with their faculty advisor to choose an individualized course of study. For graduation, seniors complete a self-designed Plan of Concentration that is reviewed by an outside evaluator who is an expert in the student’s field.

New Hampshire Institute of Art    –    Manchester, NH     www.nhia.edu
The New Hampshire Institute of Art was established as the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences in 1898. From the Institute’s outset, it has had a firm commitment to educating diverse traditional and nontraditional students in the fine arts. As an art college accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC), the Institute offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Master of Arts in Art Education, Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, Photography, Creative Writing, and Writing for Stage and Screen. Certificate Programs and a strong Continuing Education program. Dedicated faculty promote intellectual and artistic development and teach students to respond artistically to contemporary social, political, and aesthetic issues.

Salt Institute   –   Portland, ME.     www.salt.edu
We’re a non-profit school in Portland, Maine offering semester-long intensive programs in documentary writing, radio, photography and multimedia with a focus on powerful and responsible storytelling. We also exhibit documentary work in our gallery and host documentary-related events. Graduate and undergraduate students come from all over the US and other countries for fifteen weeks of intensive field research, workshops and seminars. Throughout the semester, students gather cultural materials and develop their craft to create documentaries of professional caliber. What Salt does has been called ethnography, cultural journalism, oral history, folklore, qualitative sociology, documentary photography, visual anthropology, and non-fiction writing. But we are less concerned about what to call what we do than how we do it.
